New Australian visa system may favour native English speakers for visas to Australia

 

A report from Profesor Hawthorne of Melbourne University has written a report on the Department of Immigration points system, commenting that employers may 'favour workers from Anglo-saxon backgrounds'.

The new Australian visa points system means that higher points are awarded for advanced English levels, as a result of English tests that applicants need to take for the Australian visa application.

Even Australian visa skill assessment authorities, and states who may sponsor Australia visa applicants, are attaching higher English requirements to their assessment criteria.

It has been found that in the past, migrants from China, India, Sri Lanka and Malaysia. Such applicants may now have difficulty in reaching a score of 7 or 8 in the required English test - the top-level being 9.
